You received a gift for your birthday. A friend sent you a special treat when you had a hard day. Your family members showered you with love before your wedding. Now you need to return the favor with a note of gratitude.

Don’t get bogged down in the details, worried about what you’re going to say or how to write a thank you card. At PAPYRUS, we’ll give you a few ideas to get those creative juices flowing (and some templates just in case you’re at a loss for words). We also just happen to have all the thank you cards and boxed notes for any and all occasions.

Below are a few of our best tips and tricks for how to write a thank you note so the recipient of your sentiments feels the love.

Some Do’s:

  • Do thank them for the gift or kind act.
  • Do add something a little personal in the note.
  • Do let them know what the gift means to you and how you plan to use it.
  • Do acknowledge the relationship you have with the gift giver.
  • Do sign off with warm wishes.

Sample Thank You Note Wording

  • Dear Stephen, Thank you so much for the gift card. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and we’ll definitely put it to good use in decorating our home. We look forward to having you over once we get settled.
  • Gran, I was thrilled to receive the package from you the other day. When I opened it, I teared up at the beautiful afghan you crocheted. It will be a fixture in our nursery, and it means so much to have something handmade from you for our baby. We love you and are so glad you’re such a special part of our lives.
  • Krystal and Maggie, I can’t express enough how grateful I am for the meal you guys sent over when my mother passed away. It was such a help to not have to worry about feeding our family in this sad time. Thank you both for thinking of us.
