Continuing our Valentine’s posts, today we’re featuring real couple, Michael and Claudia. Michael set the mood when he popped the big question to Claudia with background stylings courtesy of “the king” himself. PAPYRUS caught up with the couple as they plan for their big day (spoiler alert: She said yes).
Where did you first meet?
Claudia: My best girlfriend from work set us up on a blind group date at Korean BBQ.
Michael: My best friend from high school told me he had a girl for me to meet at his birthday party dinner. I was so nervous I barely said a word.
What do you like best about the other person?
Claudia: He is the most kind, sincere, and most positive person I know. He is also the definition of tall, dark and handsome! Haha!
Michael: I love how compassionate and confident she is in everything she does. When she walks into a room she commands it with her smile!
Describe your perfect Valentine’s Day.
Claudia: My ideal Valentine’s Day would be a home-cooked meal (by Michael … hint hint!), a glass of wine, and curled up on the couch watching a movie!
Michael: Hanging out at the beach watching the sunset and then heading to a wonderful sushi dinner would be my ideal Valentine’s date!
What do you like to do on a typical Sunday afternoon with your significant other?
Claudia: I love sleeping in on Sundays and going on a hike, and then heading to a yummy brunch in Old Towne Orange (we live within walking distance).
Michael: We like to head to brunch at a new restaurant and then take care of any errands we need to run to have the workweek start off right!
How did you propose?
I proposed at Claudia’s condo on Christmas Eve 2016 right before we were going to head out to breakfast. Claudia was still in her PJs when I asked her to open a gift I had gotten for her early (the ring was in this big box full of stuffing). Both of our families open gifts at midnight so I was met with a little resistance as she replied, “I’ll just open all my gifts tonight babe!”
I insisted, and who doesn’t like to open gifts early? As she opened the box, I started to play Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on her sound bar in the living room (she loves Elvis), as she found the box, I got down on one knee and I was so nervous I have no idea what I said, but I’m sure it was how much I loved her, wanted her to be my wife, and if she would marry me!
She said yes and started to cry as I put on the ring! We hugged/kissed and opened a bottle of champagne that I had bought the night before! We then each called our parents to tell them the good news, but I had already asked her dad for her hand so everyone was in on the surprise except her! It’s still one of the happiest days of our lives because both of our families got together that night and celebrated our engagement as well as Christmas!
